News: KOffice 2.1.1 Gets the Bug Count Down

Your hard-working KOffice team have been coding away over the last couple of months and the resulting KOffice 2.1.1 is now available. This is a bugfix release and the changelog shows that it improves every app in the suite. KOffice is the most integrated and complete suite of office applications available, however the 2.1 series is still recommended to experimental adopters only.

News: Microsoft Word and Office sales ban begins

A ban on Microsoft selling certain versions of its flagship products Word and Office has begun. The software firm was made to change elements of the software by US courts after a patent dispute with Canadian firm i4i. Microsoft said that it had complied with the court’s ruling and would now offer “revised software” in the US. The court ruling means that Microsoft must also pay i4i damages of $290m (£182m). However, the firm said on 8 January that it had filed another appeal against the injunction.

News: Microsoft To Start Word Patch Delivery In The US

Microsoft recently lost a patent infringement case in the United States with the court’s ruling in favor of software development company tiny i4i. Many websites and blogs proclaimed after the court’s ruling that Microsoft would have to stop selling Microsoft Word and Microsoft Office in the beginning of January. News: Microsoft Remove Features on Property i4i Word 2007

There was a surprise year-end from Microsoft. This is related to the features that had been i4i Microsoft used freely in Word word processing software.

Just to refresh, some time ago the king of software received the news from a judge that they may not be able to sell the Word for violating patents owned i4i. Of course, Microsoft’s attempt to appeal and delay the decision. But it seems that decision will still be implemented. Continue Reading »

Release: The first Release Candidate for OpenOffice.org 3.2 is now available for testing

Announced yesterday the release of Openoffice3.2 RC1, the new release comes with new features and improvements. Note that the final release of Openoffice 3.2 is planned for XX January 2010. The OOO3.2 RC1 release is now available for download and you can download it here.
