    Right on schedule, Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 3 has been released. This third alpha release brings package updates to the Linux kernel, the desktop (both GNOME and KDE), and other packages throughout the Ubuntu repositories.

    Likewise, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, and Ubuntu Studio have all reached an Alpha 3 milestone status too. The different flavors of Ubuntu, such as Ubuntu Server and Ubuntu Netbook Remix, have also been spun.

    But more of the changes are detailed at Ubuntu.com. The Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 3 release announcement can be found on ubuntu-devel-announce along with the relevant download links.

    With KDE 4.3 being scheduled for release later this month, Sebastian Kügler on the behalf of the KDE developers around the world has announced the KDE 4.3.0 release candidate. KDE 4.3 RC1 further polishes and completes the K Desktop Environment 4 with the integration of many new Linux desktop technologies, new KWin effects, improvements across the board, and many bug fixes in KDE4 packages.

    The KDE 4.3 RC1 announcement with the extensive change-log is available from KDE.org. The final release of KDE 4.3.0 is expected in late July.

    The day a new Firefox version comes out is always a fun day for me, because right now I feel like a little kid on Christmas, waiting to get to open his presents. Today is the day that Firefox 3.5 is released to the public!

    This year I hesitated to download any of the release candidates, because they always seem to spoil some of the surprise. So, like many of you, I am anxiously awaiting Mozilla’s web site update that says Firefox 3.5 is ready for download.
