WINE 1.1.22 Brings Few Graphics Improvements

The developers behind WINE are out with their bi-weekly development update to this popular open-source project. Added in this latest WINE 1.1.22 release are improvements to OLE copy/paste functionality, the start of x86_64 exception handling support, Direct3D locking fixes, ARB shaders improvements, and better OpenGL pixel format support. Like usual, there are also a variety of bug fixes contained in this latest release.

The Future Slackware Linux 13.0 Running "Current"

Last week’s tips and tricks section provided information on how to “upgrade” a stable Mandriva release to the latest development branch. Although running development trees and upgrading them in regular intervals can be risky and may even render your system unbootable or otherwise unstable, it is an excellent way of participating in the development of your favourite distribution and reporting bugs to upstream projects. GNOME 2.26.2 Desktop Released

The second to the last planned maintenance update in the GNOME 2.26 series has been released. GNOME 2.26.2 just brings the usual assortment of bug fixes and translation updates, while all major work on this free software desktop environment is now focused on GNOME 2.28.

The GNOME 2.26.2 release announcement can be read on the GNOME mailing list. There are many changes in this release between all of the different GNOME packages, but they are pretty much all fixes so hit up the mailing list link for more details on specific bug fixes.

The final planned release in the GNOME 2.26 series is 2.26.3, which is planned for unveiling on the first of July. The release of GNOME 2.28.0 is expected to be out on the 21st of September.

Virtualization With KVM On Ubuntu 9.04

This guide explains how you can install and use KVM for creating and running virtual machines on an Ubuntu 9.04 server. I will show how to create image-based virtual machines and also virtual machines that use a logical volume (LVM). KVM is short for Kernel-based Virtual Machine and makes use of hardware virtualization, i.e., you need a CPU that supports hardware virtualization, e.g. Intel VT or AMD-V.
