Bringing WINE Into Ubuntu Main

Scott Ritchie, an Ubuntu MOTU, has proposed that WINE be moved into Ubuntu’s Main repository thereby making it shipping with Ubuntu by default in some form. This proposal is coming after he and several Ubuntu developers had discussed this idea last week at the Ubuntu Developer Summit. What he is proposing is that by default on new installations of Ubuntu, when clicking on an Windows executable file to come up with some prompt informing them of the possible actions, and then to setup WINE by default. Release New Slax 6.0.9

The newest Slax version 6.0.9 has been released today.
It fixes the problems with unsquashfs, which appeared in previous version.
Moreover it updates Slax to the latest Slackware 12.2, with kernel 2.6.27.8

New Worpress 2.7 Upgrade my Weblog

Yea Wordpress 2.7 is very nice look at the design but slowly for browse :(

What wrong with this version ??? anyone know about this problem ?

Linux 2.6.28-rc8 Kernel Released

It’s been eight days since the release of Linux 2.6.28-rc7, but the eighth release candidate for this new kernel is now available. Linus Torvalds notes that this release contains a variety of small changes, but in particular there is quite a bit of kernel work related to the introduction of the Graphics Execution Manager with the Intel graphics driver now having its memory management done within the kernel.  Continue Reading »

Slackware 12.2 Released

Slackware the grand daddy of linux distros has released a new version Slackware 12.2. This new version runs the 2.6.27.7 version of the Linux kernel. The other updates include Xfce 4.4.3, KDE 3.5.10, HAL support etc. You can get Slackware 12.2 from one of their mirrors.

PHP 5.2.7 Removed from Distribution over Security

Due to a security bug found in the PHP 5.2.7 release, it has been removed from distribution. The bug affects configurations where magic_quotes_gpc is enabled, because it remains off even when set to on. In the meantime, use PHP 5.2.6 until PHP 5.2.8 is later released.

WINE 1.1.10 Brings Improved 64-Bit Support

The WINE development community has just released the tenth development update in the WINE 1.1 series. With this release are also several interesting changes. Among other work, WINE 1.1.10 offers improved 64-bit support. It’s long been a problem building WINE in a Linux x86_64 environment, but this latest release is known to correct a few of the build issues.

In addition, WINE 1.1.10 also features support for for virtual memory write watches, workarounds for a WINAPI compiler bug on Mac OS, and more GdiPlus functions have been implemented. There’s also the usual number of bug fixes in this two-week update.

gOS Linux Works On New Quick-Boot OS

Last year a new Linux distribution came about and immediately began appearing on some budget PCs within retail establishments. Good OS, the company behind the gOS Linux distribution, that launched the conceptual Google OS last year has had a quite successful 2008. gOS 2.0 Rocket launched in January at the Consumer Electronic Show and then in September was the release of gOS 3.0 Gadgets. Last month gOS also announced their plans on supporting Intel’s Moblin project. Today the Good OS crew is announcing plans for their next Linux OS release.
